There are a lot of best sewing machine brands on the market and it’s difficult to determine which brands are high quality and which are poorer quality. This comprehensive guide is a tool to help future buyers establish the brands that are the most ideal for all their sewing needs and buy guide a best sewing machine for beginners.

  • Brother: a well known brand and widely regarded among sewing experts as the best brand for its versatility and easy use. It’s also consistently the #1 bestseller on Amazon and is really affordable, despite being a high quality machine. Due to it being easy to use and versatile, it’s great for both beginners and people who are adept at sewing.

Brother does a range of different models so you can choose which particular model fits your requirements the best.

  • Singer: this brand has been around since 1851 and over the years has been refined so that it is as flawless as possible. The fact that it’s been around for so long and is still one of the most well known brands is remarkable. The reason why it hasn’t faded into obscurity in all these years is because it’s beautifully crafted and aims for perfection. When it’s outdated or inadequate in some way, those flaws are perfected.

They make a variety of models, some of which are great for beginners and some which would be better suited to the more experienced due to the more complex nature of the machine. Beginners may not be able to completely understand things like fully computerized machines, for instance.

  • Baby Lock: there is some confusion over whether Baby Lock is owned by Brother and whether the machines are identical on the inside. Neither is true. They are owned by separate companies. Brother was founded in 1908 and Baby Lock was founded in 1954 by separate people.

On the inside they are quite different, too, with some of the most notable differences being that Baby Lock has sanded down castings inside and Brother doesn’t; and that they have different software installed. Baby Lock also has a reputation for its wonderful customer service, while Brother’s reputation isn’t quite as exemplary.

The confusion is mainly due to the fact that they have a similar appearance and this is because they are manufactured by the same company. Brother does manufacture Baby Lock but they don’t own them and have no authorization on their products. There are only so many manufacturing plants, so Brother just happens to manufacture Baby Lock and certain other sewing machines but they are made in compliance to Baby Lock’s stipulations.

So in conclusion, if you want a Baby Lock, get a Baby Lock; and if you want a Brother, get a Brother. You can’t exchange one for the other because, though they’re both great machines, they do have their differences.

Great Individual Models

  • Brother CS6000i: This model is a #1 bestseller on Amazon. Its best feature is how user friendly it is; it’s often recommended to beginners due to this. It isn’t just a beginner model, though. It’s great for anyone who needs a machine that’s capable of adapting to many different needs. Owing to being a fully computerized model that is simple to use, it’s easy to fix any mistakes you make. Sometimes the fully computerized machines are complicated and difficult to understand, especially for the beginner, but this machine is the opposite. It was made with the user firmly in mind.

It can be used for conventional sewing as well as for quilting, and this is such a great feature because not just any old sewing machine can proficiently do quilting, and the ones that can typically cost a lot more than this model does.

  • Singer 6783 Curvy: Some models are more popular than others, and this is the case with the Curvy. It’s one of Singer’s more in demand models which can be accredited to its efficiency in running the thread smoothly and producing very few errors. It works well with many different types of fabric and it has 30 built-in stitches for the users’ convenience.

It’s just a great all purpose machine for beginners and intermediate users alike and is capable of withstanding a fair amount of use due to its durable frame that is made from industrial strength metal. Yet, it’s lightweight enough that it’s not a burden to deal with.

  • Baby Lock Audrey: With more than two dozen excellent products it’s difficult to choose a single model, but the Audrey is hard to beat. Despite only weighing just over 12 lbs, it is a solid and strong machine. Its drop-in bobbin is extremely useful, as are the push button features and 66 built-in stitches. It comes with a carry bag and an extension table, too.

Overall, this is an outstanding model. Easy to use, adaptable, and just about everything most people could use in a sewing machine.
